In the first seven days of the year, I ran 25 miles. If I'm able to keep that up during the next 51 weeks, I'll be able to surpass my 1,000-mile goal.
I'm also putting a focus on other types of exercise. I pay for a gym membership, and I don't go enough. I've already gone three times this week -- which is much more than I have been going recently.
Part of that increase is due to it being the winter. It's often dark or close to getting dark when I get out of work, and I don't run in the dark by myself. Yesterday, the temperatures were also extra cold, and while I did have friends who ran outside, I opted to run on the treadmill (it was also getting dark).
The weather conditions don't normally scare me away. I ran in the snow this week, which I really had fun doing. (It's not a common occurrence that we can run in the snow around here, and I already had off work that day.)
I'm also jumping on the New Year's weight-loss bandwagon. The New Year -- after I've enjoyed my Christmas cookies, candy and holiday treats -- seems like a good time for a new start. I'm not going to cut out sweets completely, but just think more carefully about what I eat and drink, and try to exercise more.
I brought out my Jillian Michaels "6 Week Six-Pack" DVD for the first time in a while, and did the workout on Monday. I've also worked out during two Zumba classes during the week and did weights/weight machines (even if only a little bit) when I've gone to the gym.
I'm sore today, but I'm glad that I am: I can tell that I'm doing something.
